MHI’s parent company, Manitoba Hydro, was established in 1880 and currently holds assets in excess of $12.3 billion, with $1.9 billion in annual revenues, and over 5 900 full time employees. It is a major power utility, involved in the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of all elements of power infrastructure. As a utility operator, Manitoba Hydro serves over 550 000 electricity customers and 261 000 natural gas customers. In addition, Manitoba Hydro exports up to 40% of its energy production to the North American marketplace, which includes over 35 utilities and marketers in the mid-western USA, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.
Since 1985, MHI has successfully delivered Manitoba Hydro’s expertise to electric utilities, governments and donor agencies worldwide while establishing itself as an ethical, environmentally responsible provider of high quality utility services to the international power sector.
As of 2009, Manitoba Hydro International Ltd. is an amalgamation of four companies that includes WIRE Services, Manitoba Hydro Telecom, Manitoba HVDC Research Centre and Manitoba Hydro International all operating as Manitoba Hydro International Ltd. These subsidiary companies of Manitoba Hydro have joined forces under a common banner to broaden the service offerings and position MHI for growth.
